The father of a 15-year-old Pakistani girl shot in the head by the Taliban described his daughter's survival and ongoing recovery as miraculous Friday, and said her shooting was a turning point for Pakistan.
Just days ago, Ziauddin Yousufzai was making preparations for his daughter's funeral. Now, he is talking about Malala's survival and says she will return home after finishing medical treatment abroad, despite new insurgent threats against her.
Malala's father, mother and two brothers were reunited with the teen at a hospital in Birmingham, England on Thursday night. The following day, Ziaduddin Yousufzai told reporters her status now is "a miracle for us."
The Islamist militants say they're targeting Malala because she promoted "Western thinking." The girl had gained international recognition for advocating for girls' education.
CBC's Ann MacMillan has the details of the family's reunion in this report.
