U.S. President Barack Obama is in Boston today to attend an 11 a.m. ET interfaith service in honour of the three killed and more than 170 injured during the Boston Marathon bombings.
People lined up hours ahead Thursday to get into the city's Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Cross for the interfaith service. City police were stationed on street corners across downtown, and some residents admitted they were nervous moving about in public spaces.
The roughly 2000-seat cathedral will be full. By 9 a.m. people were already being turned away.
Obama arrived in Boston this morning with his wife, Michelle. He will deliver remarks at the service dubbed Healing Our City.
The public service will also include a performance by cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
Among the hundreds in line was 18-year-old Eli Philips. The college student was a Marathon volunteer and was wearing his volunteer jacket on Thursday morning.
He said he's still shocked that "something that was euphoric went so bad."
