Eugenie Bouchard today became the first Canadian in the Open era of tennis to reach the semifinals of a Wimbledon singles tournament, defeating No. 9 seed Angelique Kerber of Germany 6-3, 6-4.
Bouchard, the No. 13 seed from Montreal, has now reached the final four in each of the three Grand Slam events this season.
The 20-year-old lost in the semis at both the Australian Open and the French Open.
Bouchard will now face No. 3 seed Simona Halep, who dispatched No. 19 Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-0 on the grass of the All England Club.
Bouchard lost her only previous meeting against Halep, on the hardcourt surface at Indian Wells last March.
"She's a good player and I'm ready for another tough match," Bouchard said.
The other semifinal pits No. 23 Lucie Safarova against No. 6 Petra Kvitova.
Kvitova won Wimbledon in 2011, and Lisicki reached the final last year.
Milos Raonic has a chance to become the first Canadian to make the semifinals of the Wimbledon men's draw when he plays Australia's Nick Kyrgios later Wednesday.
Defending champion Andy Murray was upset Wednesday by Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets.
The 11th-seeded Bulgarian had little trouble with the third-seeded Scotsman, beating him 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
This is the furthest Dimitrov, 22, has advanced in a Grand Slam tournament. He'll next face either top seed Novak Djokovic or No. 26 Marin Cilic.
In the other quarter-final, it's No. 4 Roger Federer vs. No. 5 Stan Wawrinka in a battle of Swiss.
