Ottawa police are trying to find a man who, on at least six occasions, impersonated a police officer and stole money from elderly people in the Rideau Street area.
The six incidents reported to police took place between Dec. 10 and Dec. 23 on Rideau, between Cumberland and Charlotte streets, police said in a release Wednesday.
The man, who was not wearing a uniform, approached elderly people and "identified himself verbally as a police officer or said things that would lead them to believe he was one," police said.
He then stole money from them and fled.
The suspect is described as:
- An English-speaking white man.
- About 50 to 60 years of age.
- Six feet tall
- Medium build.
- White wavy hair.
- Often wearing a "news boy" cap and well dressed.
