Tragedy has hit the hockey community again. Following the sad news of Jean Béliveau's passing at the age of 83, many people took to social media to extend their condolences and honour a true gentleman of the game.
Béliveau died at the age of 83, the NHL team announced Tuesday night.
One of the finest centres who ever played, Béliveau helped lead the Montreal Canadiens to an unprecedented five straight Stanley Cups during the 1950s and 1960s — 10 in all over a nearly 20-year career.
Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre summed up the feeling surrounding the passing of the Canadiens legend when he announced that the hockey world and the entire country would be mourning this great loss.
Flags will remain at half mast in the city of Montreal to honour Béliveau.
