A 12-hour standoff in a Saskatchewan village is over, and a man is in custody following the shooting death of a teenage boy and alleged abduction of a 17-year-old girl in an Amber Alert.
Jonas Budd was arrested without incident around 10:30 p.m. CST, the RCMP said.
The standoff began when police surrounded a house at Sturgeon Landing, Sask., late Thursday.
Budd's sister, Joyce Budd, expressed relief on her Facebook page that it has ended.
"End of it. My brother is in custody. Thank you for the support to many family and friends, and friends of Jonas's and new friends made through this difficult time," she said.
Police said Friday that a full list of charges will be released later Friday morning, and Budd will make his first appearance in La Ronge provincial court on Monday.
The search for Budd started Wednesday morning when someone fatally shot 17-year-old Dustin Bird at a home on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in northern Saskatchewan. Police said Budd was a suspect and was also responsible for the abduction of the 17-year-old girl, who is the daughter of his ex-partner.
Sturgeon Landing is close to the Manitoba border, about 120 kilometres south of Flin Flon.
